There are a lot of things in life I do fairly well . . .I write well, I had a great career, I am a favorite aunt and well loved mother and I bake an apple pie that would win a blue ribbon at the state fair. Having embraced what I do well, I also embrace what I don’t do well–I don’t sew, I don’t camp and I don’t wait very well. Hence this blog.
I had a brainstorm over a month ago, to create a blog that would journal a much needed process of soul searching and self discovery. I wanted it to be serious. I wanted it to be widely read. I wanted to create an online community of others on a similar journey . . . .and I wanted a book deal and a mention on Oprah. THAT blog is still in development. I have talked to designers, agonized over names, created an outline of topics, fretted over self hosting, read a dozen books, etc. Good God. That one is work.
This blog will be about that work.
And since I really, really wanted to blog, once I had the idea, OVER A MONTH AGO, I decided to create this blog. It came from a need of having to DO something.
This blog will be about the “back of the house” work behind the other blog–which we will launch once it is named, hosted and pretty.
This blog is about the glazed over looks from family and friends when I tell them I want to blog for a living. What did your favorite 70 year old aunt say when you told her you blogged? Did she look concerned for your well being?
It’s about the worry over who will read the other blog, and for God’s sake, why would they read it.
It’s about how I try to drive readership to the other blog, what works and what doesn’t, which stats are important, and how I get my blog mentioned on someone’s tv show.
And the whole advertising thing. How does that work? That’s where the money is, apparently.
Since this is the world wide web, I have a whole world of tutors out there to run ideas past as I try to make a go of it with the other-yet-to-be-named-or-launched-blog. Chime in. Offer ideas. Tell me what you have read that is helpful. Who has the coolest blog out there? Who got their blog mentioned on CNN or Mornings with Hoda and Kathy Lee? What do I need to know? What stats are important? How do I land advertisers?
Offer ideas. Offer guidance. Offer a latte. I am open to all input and sources of caffeine.
